Choose the next unlock
Default: Open the locked Survivor’s roster card, then pursue the closest saved counter during an otherwise useful run.
Reason: Ghost, Medic, Pyro, and Mechanic preserve progress between runs, so ordinary play can advance them without changing the whole run plan.
Premise: Their cards show the amount still needed. The complete targets below restore the original total.
Cost: Huntress must satisfy one duration condition in a single run, while Ranger waits for the shared Survival Level instead of any named Survivor Level.
Alternative: If the closest target does not fit the current objective, leave it accumulating and choose Huntress or Ranger only when their distinct condition matches the run.
Identify the level on screen
The level-up prompt during combat belongs to the current run. The shared level at Camp is Survival Level. A tree headed by one named character uses that Survivor’s own level.
Ranger’s unlock card checks the shared Survival Level. It does not use Team Level from the current run or the permanent level of one named Survivor. The Skill Tree guide owns permanent XP, ranks, caps, node costs, prerequisites, and refunds.

Saved shared Survival LevelThe roster card is the authority for your current progress. This guide shows each complete target because four cards replace the original target with an amount still needed. For example, the full objective for is Kill 100 zombie bosses, even when the card shows a smaller number after some bosses have been defeated.
is the only recruitable Survivor in this set with a one-run duration objective. The four counter objectives for Ghost, Medic, Pyro, and Mechanic use saved profile totals. checks the saved shared Survival Level.
Understand the saved counters
Ghost, Medic, Pyro, and Mechanic do not ask you to finish their full totals in one run. Their boss kills, collected healthpaks, Elemental damage, and Ability activations are saved profile statistics. A run can add part of a target, and a later run can continue it.
The wording on those four cards uses “more” because the screen subtracts the saved value from the full target. If a Ghost card reports a remaining amount, it is not a smaller alternative objective. It is the unfinished part of the same saved total.
Ranger behaves differently on the selection screen. The card inserts the fixed Survival Level target rather than a remaining value. Check the shared Survival Level against 175; do not use an individual Survivor Level or the current combat level.
Choose the next unlock
Check the closest unfinished roster objective first. A saved counter can move during ordinary runs, so it does not always need a dedicated setup. If you are already using abilities often, Mechanic progress may advance while another goal determines the run.
Use a one-run objective as the run’s main constraint. Huntress needs the duration condition in one attempt, so survival takes priority over an unrelated damage experiment when that unlock is the goal.
Treat Ranger as a permanent milestone. The shared Survival Level target does not care which individual Survivor tree has the most points. Spend points for useful access now, then check the shared level again after the run.
Avoid the common mix-ups
Using combat level for Ranger
Ranger checks the saved shared Survival Level. A high level reached inside one run is a different value.
Reading “more” as the full target
Ghost, Medic, Pyro, and Mechanic cards show remaining progress. Use the complete targets in the roster reference when you need the original requirement.
Treating every unlock as a one-run challenge
Only Huntress uses the fixed duration objective in one run. The four counters are saved totals, and Ranger uses a saved level.
Confusing roster unlocks with missions
Unlock cards and Mission Log entries use separate objectives. Completing a personal mission does not replace the character-selection condition. Use the Mission guide when the objective appears in the Mission Log.
FAQ
Which Survivors are available at the start?
SWAT, Tank, Engineer are available without an unlock objective.
Do boss kills for Ghost have to happen in one run?
No. Ghost uses a saved profile counter, and the selection card shows the amount still needed.
What does Medic progress track?
Medic checks the saved collected-healthpak total. The selection card shows the amount still needed for the complete target of 50.
Is Team Level different from Survival Level?
The shared permanent tree is the Team tree. Ranger’s unlock text calls that shared level Survival Level. It is separate from every named Survivor Level.
